Siberia born professional Latin and ballroom dancer, Pasha Kovalev, became famous after competing on the third season of the American version of So You Think You Can Dance in 2007. He has also participated in the eight subsequent seasons as either choreographers or All-Star partners to the contestants.

Kovalev began to dance at the age of eight. He danced with his partner Anya Garnis in the Amateur Latin division in Russia until 2000. After moving to the USA, Kovalev and Garnis became professional and began to perform in the United States, the United Kingdom, and Canada in 2002. On 13 February 2019, Pasha Kovalev revealed that he’d be leaving Strictly Come Dancing after eight wonderful years. The Russian dancer announced the news on his Twitter account, saying it’s time for him to find a new adventure.
“Thanks to the wonderful partners, staff, and multitude of behind-the-scenes departments that are all working to make Strictly the outstanding product it is”, he wrote. He also appreciated the public for helping it over the years.

Although he was initially only present at the audition to assist Anya Garnis, he was also invited to audition and together with Garnis he became one of the 20 dancers chosen to perform in the third season of the show from June to August 2007.
Despite advancing all the way to the Top 6, Kovalev was eliminated on August 13, in the last round before the final, losing out to the two remaining males, the contemporary dancers Danny Tidwell and Neil Haskell.

Seasons 4–11: Choreographer
At Season 4, Kovalev assisted Mia Michaels in the Contemporary Routine, and he and his partner Anya Garnis choreographed the Cha-Cha Routine performed by Courtney Galiano and Gev Manukian.
At Season 5, Kovalev and Garnis choreographed Samba for Evan Kasprzak and Randi Evans. At Season 6, he and Garnis returned to So You Think You Can Dance to lead the choreography rounds during the auditions, and later that season they choreographed a Jive for Russell Ferguson and Mollee Gray.
Kovalev was named “All-Star” for Season 7 and Season 8 of the competition, performing all the Latin and Ballroom styles with female contestants, including champions Lauren Froderman and Melanie Moore. With Season 9, the following year, Janelle Issis and Dareian Kujawa returned to choreography with Cha-cha on the third week of live shows.
Eventually, on 16 July 2014, Kovalev and Garnis returned to choreograph the new Jive Routine for Bridget Whitman and Emilio Dosal during Season 11.
