Freezing a wart using cryotherapy is an effective wart removal option. Liquid nitrogen is applied to the plantar wart with a spray or cotton swab. This destroys the tissue and causes a small blister to form over the spot. In a week or so, the deceased skin will be gone.

Many people have removed warts with these self-care tips: Peeling medicine (salicylic acid). Nonprescription wart removal products are available as a patch or liquid. Usually, you’re instructed to wash the site, soak it in warm water, and gently remove the top layer of softened skin with a pumice stone or emery board.

Whatever you do, do not try to cut off a plantar wart yourself because you may injure yourself and cuts in your skin allow the warts to spread.

Plantar warts are caused by an infection with HPV in the outer layer of skin on the soles of your feet. They develop when the virus enters your body through tiny cuts, breaks or other weak spots on the bottoms of your feet. HPV is very common, and more than 100 kinds of the virus exist.

They appear as thick, rough, callus-like thickenings on the soles of the feet. In addition, plantar warts often have multiple small black “dots” at the surface, which are actually tiny blood vessels.

Home Treatments for Warts

Any object used (tweezers, file, etc.) should not be used on any other body part after touching the wart. Those with diabetes should not treat warts on the feet.

Don’t rub, scratch, or pick at the wart. Doing so could spread the virus to another part of your body or cause the wart to become infected. Don’t share towels or other personal items with others.

To treat a wart, soak it for 10 to 15 minutes (you can do this in the shower or bath), file away the deceased warty skin with an emery board or pumice stone, and apply the salicylic acid. Do this once or twice a day for 12 weeks.

Don’t pick at warts or try to peel them off, as this will only spread the virus. Have separate nail clippers for healthy and infected areas. Try not to shave over warts.

Do not cut off a wart yourself! While it’s technically possible to perform a little “bathroom surgery,” and some people have claimed success using the method, it’s a very bad idea.

Peeling medicine (salicylic acid).

For common warts, look for a 17 percent salicylic acid solution. These products (Compound W, Dr. Scholl’s Clear Away Wart Remover, others) are usually used daily, often for a few weeks. For best results, soak your wart in warm water for a few minutes before applying the product.

Remove deceased Wart:

Once or twice a week, remove the deceased wart material. Do this by paring it down with a disposable razor. This is easier to do than you think. It shouldn’t cause any pain or bleeding.

If you choose to let a wart heal on its own, try not to touch it. This may spread the virus to other parts of your body or to other people. No matter how they‘re removed, warts may reoccur after they have gone away.

Common Wart (verruca vulgaris): Common warts are typically rough and can vary in size and number. Because warts have blood vessels near their surface, they can bleed easily if injured or bumped. The “black dots” often seen at the surface are really small blood clots at the ends of these blood vessels.

The wart may swell or throb. The skin on the wart may turn black in the first 1 to 2 days, which might signal that the skin cells in the wart are dying. The wart might fall off within 1 to 2 weeks.

One needs to keep going down until just below the level of the surrounding skin to eradicate a wart completely. Stop when the base of the wart looks exactly like normal skin (i.e. no black dots or ‘graininess). If they become sore or bleed a little just leave off the treatment and carry on the following night.

In general, apple cider vinegar is believed to work for warts in the following ways: Vinegar is an acid (acetic acid), so it can kill some types of bacteria and viruses on contact. The vinegar burns and slowly destroys the infected skin, causing the wart to fall off, similar to how salicylic acid works.

In your case, you do not describe a “bump” or “cauliflower” appearance but rather “small holes.” It is common for people with plantar warts not to have large bumps, but rather to have small holes or depressions in their feet.
