Andre 3000 Parents: Meet Sharon Benjamin and Lawrence Harvey Walker.

André 3000, the multifaceted American artist known for his groundbreaking contributions to hip-hop and beyond, is not just a musical icon but a product of his family’s rich history.

Born André Lauren Benjamin on May 27, 1975, in Atlanta, Georgia, he is the only child of Sharon Benjamin, a real estate seller, and Lawrence Harvey Walker, a collections agent.

Growing up under the guidance of his single mother, Sharon Benjamin, André’s early life was shaped by the vibrant neighborhoods of Atlanta, including East Point and Buckhead.

Sharon Benjamin, André’s mother, was not only a dedicated parent but also a community leader. She founded and served as the guiding force behind The Starlight Camp, an initiative aimed at supporting underprivileged children.

This endeavor operated out of the New Morning Light Missionary Baptist Church in Conley, GA, where her husband, Pastor Robert Hodo, led the congregation.

Tragically, André 3000 experienced the profound loss of his mother in 2013. Sharon Benjamin-Hodo passed away in her Atlanta home, reportedly found lifeless on the day after her son’s 38th birthday. The circumstances pointed to her peacefully passing away in her sleep at the age of 58.

Her legacy lives on not only through André’s illustrious career but also through the positive impact she made on the community, especially through The Starlight Camp.
