Christopher Claus “Chris” Andersen (born July 7, 1978) is a professional basketball player from the United States who now represents the Miami Heat of the National Basketball Association (NBA). Andersen was born in Long Beach, California, grew up in Iola, Texas, and attended Blinn College for one year before moving on to the NFL. After a brief stint in the Chinese Basketball Association and the American lower leagues, Andersen started his professional career in the NBA. He subsequently went on to play in the NBA, for the Denver Nuggets and the New Orleans Hornets, among other teams. When he was suspended for two years by the NBA in 2006 for violating the league’s drug policy, the 6-foot-10, 245-pound (111 kg; 17.5 st) center/power forward was reinstated on March 4, 2008, and re-signed with the Hornets the following day. Later in 2008, he moved to Denver with his family, where he stayed until 2012. In January 2013, he signed a contract with the Miami Heat. He has the distinction of being the only Blinn student to ever play in the NBA.
