Purja is known for climbing all 14 eight-thousanders (mountain peaks exceeding 8,000 meters or 26,000 feet) in under six months and six days using bottled oxygen.
In addition, he was the first to reach the summits of Mount Everest, Lhotse, and Makalu in less than 48 hours.
Purja and nine other Nepalese mountaineers made history by the first-ever winter ascent of Pakistan’s K2 in 2021.

Nirmal “Nims” Purja is a Nepali mountaineer and multiple world record holder.
Nirmal Purja completed the second phase in July 2019, ascending K2, Broad Peak, Nanga Parbat, Gasherbrum I, Gasherbrum II all in Pakistan.
The third and final phase started in the September of 2021.
Purja departed for Tibet on October 18 2019, heading a five-person expedition to climb the mountain.
He completed Project Possible 14/7 on October 29 with the use of supplementary oxygen.
