Seth Gilliam is one of television’s easiest actors to recognise. Many would know him as Sgt Ellis Carver in “The Wire”, or from “The Walking Dead” as Father Gabriele Stokes, but the talented actor had played in numerous roles throughout his career. He’s appeared in several films, but his most noteworthy success has always been in television series. There is plenty to know about Seth, and if you are interested to learn more about the actor, please read on.

Early life and family

Not much is known about Seth’s childhood, or who his parents are. All that is known is that he was born on the 5th November 1968, in Long Island, New York, USA. If he has siblings, they have remained away of public notice, and Seth has successfully hidden the truth about his family and early life.

Educational background

Seth’s earliest schooling career is also a mystery, as it has not been publicly announced where he finished high school. However, it is widely known that Seth is a graduate of the State University of New York.

It is publicly known that he was a classmate of the actor Dwight Ewell, but in what Seth graduated has been kept quiet and no records can be found. He finished University in 1990, and started his career in acting shortly afterwards.

Career

Seth’s first role was in “The Cosby Show” as Aaron Dexter, appearing in three episodes between 1990 and 1991. In 1993, he appeared in two films in small roles before his break to stardom came around. These films were “Joey Breaker” in which he played as Jeremy Breaker and “Mr Wonderful”.

He gained several more roles in the following years, including a role in the film “Courage Under Fire” in 1996, starring alongside Denzel Washington. It wasn’t until 1997 that Seth gained true recognition on the silver screen, when he portrayed the character of Sugar Watkins in the acclaimed film “Starship Troopers”. He had a notable recurring role in the television series “Oz” which lasted from 1999 to 2001, and also appeared in “Law and Order”.

In 2002, he gained one of his most iconic roles in “The Wire”, which lasted for six years and 50 episodes.

During his time on the set of “The Wire”, Seth also made numerous appearances in other television series and films, including “The Bronx is Burning”, “Law and Order: Trial by Jury”, and the film “Punks”.

When his role ended on “The Wire” in 2008, Seth was already popular and a sought-after actor, and made appearances in the popular shows “CSI: Miami”, “Damages”, as well as “Mercy”.

That same year of 2009, Seth had a role in the iconic film “Did You Hear About The Morgans?”, starring alongside Sarah Jessica Parker and Hugh Grant.

In the following years before gaining a recurring role again, Seth made appearances in shows such as “The Good Wife”, and “Svetlana”.

From 2011 to 2017, Seth appeared in the supernatural drama “Teen Wolf”, portraying the character Dr Alan Deaton in 43 episodes. During that time he also appeared in the films “Still Alice” and “Police State”, and also gained a role in the ever-popular “The Walking Dead”, starring in 52 episodes starting in 2014, and is still ongoing. His other most recent appearances have been in “Elementary”, “City on a Hill” and in the show “Bull”.

Hobbies, favourite things and interesting facts

Not much is known about Seth’s personal interests, and his Facebook account, though active, is not very insightful either. However, the actor did get into trouble with the law on one occasion not too long ago.

After being pulled over for exceeding the speed limit, Seth was arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol and marijuana, but released after he was able to pay bail of just under $10,000.

This happened in May of 2015, but luckily the incident did not affect the filming of “The Walking Dead”.

Relationships

Seth is married to the theatre director Leah Gardiner, and the couple has one child together but has successfully hidden their child’s identity from the public. Leah was previously married, but as of 24 August, 2005 she made her vows to Seth, and the couple has been together since.
